MOPS 2009-2010

As you all know, I absolutely LOVE my time at MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and look forward to the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.

Earlier this week I was speaking to the coordinator of MOPS for Crossfield and she asked if I would be interested in being on the steering team next year. Of course, I said yes! I had a choice of which position I wanted, as a few were opening up. I was optioned finance, publicity, newsletter or TLC.

I chose TLC coordinator, which means that I will be gathering up meals from the other MOPS moms to distribute to those moms that need some help. This could be moms that have just had a new baby, or those families that are going through tough times. Providing meals is just a small but important way to help families. I will also be giving baby gifts to the new babies born to our MOPS moms. How fun is that? And the best part? Dee is going to be the other TLC Coordinator, so I get to team up with my best friend, too!

I am so excited about this opportunity. In June, the steering team goes on a planning retreat for a weekend to plan the year's MOPS events. I hear that this is a very fun-filled weekend and I am very much looking forward to it!

So, anyone in the Crossfield area (Calgary counts, I think) that is a mom of a child up to 6, come join MOPS in September! It is a fantastic way to meet people, get a bit of a break from your kids for 2 hours and get some advice from other moms going through the same things. (Natasha- This means you!!!)

MOPS is an international organization, mostly in the states. There are only a few MOPS groups in Canada, that I am aware of. It is a Christian organization, but you don't have to be a church-goer to attend.

We meet every second and fourth Thursday of each month from September to April. There are volunteer ladies that look after our kids while the moms get 2 hours to listen to guest speakers, do crafts, have snacks and visit. It is fantastic!

I can let you know in August when Registration is in September. I think it was about $35 for the whole year, which isn't much considering what we get out of it for 8 months!

It is a wonderful thing to be able to connect with other moms, some stay at home moms and some are working moms, but all have at least one child under 6. Highly recommended!!

Oh, we meet at the Baptist church in Crossfield from 9am-11am.

I will definitely look into it! Is it something I can go too soon after the baby is born or do I have to wait until a certain age?
