Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween! Luca and Donovan dressed up and had a blast (Donovan, did anyway!). Donovan dressed as a snake (he picked his costume himself) and Jessica took him up to the nursing home where she works to see all the residents. Luca dressed up as a pea pod (Grandma bought the costume for him). He was only dressed up long enough to take some pictures, but he didn't seem to mind. Here are some pics of the two little boys...

4 Months...

Here are Luca's 4 month pictures. He is growing so quickly. He is almost able to sit up on his own, and he is into chewing on everything!

Surgery Update

We had an appointment with the pediatric surgeon today. He was really nice, and we felt comfortable with him. He explained that Luca needed surgery to remove the lump, as they tend to get bigger and can have recurring infections. (He told us the name, but I forget exactly what he thinks it is- they won't know for sure until they remove it). He doesn't think that it is anything serious, but it is better to remove it now before it gets infected and causes a problem. Luca will have to go under general anesthetic for the surgery, but it is a relatively short procedure. He will only be away from us for about 1/2 an hour total. It is Day surgery, so he won't have to stay at the hospital and it will be done at the U of A. The insision will be about 2cm long laterally on his chest and it will just be closed with disolveable stitches. So, all in all, not anything too major. (At least, that is what I am telling myself over and over again)

After he told us what would be happening, his secretary came in to set up the appointment. We were both expecting to wait a month or so, so you can imagine our surprise when she asked how next Thursday was for us. So, Luca will be having the surgery on Thursday, November 9th.

I think that the week leading up to the surgery will be a stressful time for Chris and I, so please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We need to remember that it is a simple surgery, and that the doctor will do a great job, and that Luca will be perfectly fine.

Great pictures once again!! Glad to hear that everything went well at the appointment yesterday. It probably is best that is going to be done sooner than later so that you guys don't have to worry about it. Our thoughts and prayers are with you three!!

You said it all yourself...it's a simple surgery, the doctor spent how long learning his stuff....I'm sure a little removal is no biggie and he'll be just fine. It's good that it's sooner than later so that you won't have as much time to think about it before. We'll be praying for his safety...and your peace of mind.
Let us know if there's anything we can do. Take care!

By the way...those costume pics are SOOO cute. I was thinking that it would be funny if they were both peas....two peas in a pod! I know - dorky! Thanks for posting those, they're great. You should keep those costumes around for other little ones that may come in the future!
Take care,
M & V.

One of the hardest things (emotionally) to do as a parent is to surrender your baby to anesthesia and surgery.

Knowing that the procedure is simple and the prognisis is very positive doesn't make it a whole lot easier.

I don't think you are worrying so much about the outcome - you can talk yourself out of that worry because it looks so positive. But the other part - surrendering him (and I use that word again on purpose) to a situation that is so totally out of your control and care ......there is only one thing you can do to make that any easier. Draw on Faith. Consiously and verbally put Luca in Jesus' hands. Over and Over again, if you need to. Ask for, and expect, His Peace for yourselves and for Luca. Jesus is the only one who can go with him into the operating room that loves him at least as much as you do.

I know what I am talking about.

We know how you are feeling. We are here, only a phone call or short drive away if you want or need anything from us. We love you.

I finally found this site again! We will be remembering you and Luca now and on Thursday--It is true--Jesus will hold his hand all the way, and will give you peace as you put your trust in Him! Our prayer group meets on Wed. a.m. so we will be sure to pray for you and for Luca.
The pictures are so cute--thanks for posting them. Hope when things quiet down you will make it to Sylvan for a day. If you need any help give me a call--I am not far away. Love, Grandma J.
